Sometimes I wonder if Mark Sheppard is stalking me.

If he is, he’s really good at it.  Inserting himself into every TV show I am bound to like, even if some of them never get on my radar, is a brilliant move.  Slowly but surely, he’s working his way into my Geek World with such talent and wise choices that if he did show up on my doorstep with dead roses and a crazed look in his eye, asking why won’t I just love him back already, I would totally say, “But, I do!”

I first noticed Mark Sheppard as a “That Guy” when he appeared in Battlestar Gallactica as Romo Lamkin.

“Say,” thought I, “that’s Badger!”  You know, from Firefly.

Miss me, Love?

I was certainly used to seeing actors from Joss Whedon shows turn up as “that guy” or “that chick” multiple times, but generally this happened in other Joss Whedon shows.  So, it was kind of exciting to see him in an unrelated and significantly different genre of geeky, sci-fi space shows.  (One being a Western, one being not a Western and having significantly more robots).

Turns out, he’d also go on to be in another Joss Whedon show tut suit, playing a character named Tanaka on the short lived, much maligned, but still awesome if you ask me, Dollhouse. Couldn’t find a picture of it, but suffice it to say, I began to notice this guy as an extra special “That Guy.”…and to find him increasingly attractive.

Then, it just got weird.  It seemed like every show I even tried out for a test run had This Guy in it.  Even the non geeky ones like White Collar and Chuck! Actually, I guess Chuck is kind of geeky.  But it’s not SyFy channel geeky.  Not, “get burried under the worst time slot possible on the Fox and get canceled far too soon” geeky.

When he showed up on Warehouse 13, I believe my reaction was, “I’ve been expecting you, Mark.” …Which may poke some holes in the he’s stalking me theory.

As you can imagine, after his first appearance on Supernatural as the “is he or isn’t he a total evil bastard” demon Crowely, I lost my shit.  It was AWESOME.

I told you I'd always find you, baby.

So awesome in fact, that when Bex and I headed to Chicago in October of 2010 for the Supernatural convention, I could not resist getting a picture with him.  I knew full and well you’re not supposed to give stalkers any encouragement, even if their stalking is 100% in your imagination and likely very much the other way around in real life, but I couldn’t help myself.

I also couldn’t resist taking this shot of me with our shot together, wearing a look on my fact that says, “Hey, Mark Sheppard, can a girl get a smile?  You look like you didn’t even know there was a camera there!”  But, honestly, I’m not complaining.  I have a picture with THE that guy of the geek world right now.

And, listen, if you needed any more proof that Mark Sheppard is deserving of geek shows That Guy MVP status, how’s this for you:

That’s right.  That’s him in 1993, as the villain in The X-Files, Fire.

And, it gets better folks. According to IMDB, Mr. Sheppard will be appearing in season 6 of Dr. Who…and if I’m reading this right…it will be with his dad.  Geekgasm accomplished. I need a cigarette.

Consider yourself schooled! You can not deny it! My stalker is the That Guy of our generation.

So.  Which of his roles has been your favorite?  Take the poll!

I have to go off poll and say it was his turn on the X Files. He was Jude Law before Jude Law only the majority of the world didn’t realize it.
But firestarter storyline and his performance just hit a nerve with me and still freaks me out. It’s one of the few episodes I vividly remember.
Second up is his performance as Sterling in Leverage. Sterling always wins. And he’ll be back this coming season! Yea!

I went with his Battlestar Gallactica role. Honestly, I think it’s the best role he’s had (that I’ve seen) by way of demonstrating his range as an actor. Such an amazing show, and he’s great in it.

AHAH! *___* I CAN SOOO UNDERSTAND YOU! I kinda had the same excursus and loved him in every single episode he unexpectedly appeared into!

It was amazing to see him play a good guy on the Doctor Who premier.
