The Emmy nominations were announced with the usual fanfare, excitement, and disappointment.  You can read about it here at the Word of the Nerd site. Overall, I think there are mostly solid choices. It’s nice to see HBO’s Girls get some acknowledgement as well as Downton Abbey and even Sherlock  (including nominations for co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman).  But Proffitt and I are both really agitated about The Walking Dead being totally dissed except for some technical acknowledgement. And I still am not 100% satisfied with the reasoning for American Horror Story or the short-lived Ashley Judd vehicle Missing being considered  miniseries.  (What is the plural of miniseries anyway? Miniseries? Miniserieses? Minseri?)

But I digress.  Rather than moan and complain about who should have been nominated, I am awarding my own Emmy awards, the Bexxy Awards if you will.

The Official Hot Guy

   Timothy Olyphant for Justified

A good but not stellar show, Olyphant is due some acknowledgement. Now, Proffitt disagrees but I think Olyphant and Josh Duhamel are the new “Paxton/Pullman?” I watched an entire Duhamel movie thinking I was watching Timothy Olyphant.  What do YOU think?

Actor Who Makes Best Use of Being  A Supporting Actor

   Norman Reedus- The Walking Dead

The sideways glances, the glares, Reedus is just a joy to watch as Daryl Dixon, even when the other actors are in the spotlight.  He does it gracefully  without taking their “thunder.”

Who Knew He Was Packing?

Jon Bernthal -The Walking Dead

Shane was coming unhinged and unlikeable and just committed a horrible act of humanity, but when he took off that shirt there was an audible gasp in the world.

Gone To Crazytown

True Blood

Enjoyable but it’s gotten so convoluted and messy, why doesn’t Sookie just move? I would. Too many supernatural characters on too small acreage. Reel it in a bit because I think I could stop watching and be okay with that.

Most Devoted Fanbase

Supernatural

Time and time again the fans show their online support getting the boys TV Guide covers, online awards, they’ve raised thousands for all kinds of charities, and along with Proffitt and I have taken part in making the Guinness World Records for co-star Misha Collin’s un-organization GISHWHES (The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt The World Has Ever Seen).  Go us! We won’t even give up hope for the show after a lackluster few seasons.

Representing Canada

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil

PURE fun is more like it. Thank you Canada.

Am I Really 30+ And Watching MTV?

Teen Wolf

I still can’t believe this awesome show is on MTV. It makes me question the world as I know it.

Breaking Our Hearts Time and Time Again But You Still Make Us Smile

Doctor Who

We know how you feel, Doctor.

Lifetime Achievement

Bruce Campbell

Has anyone done Bruce Campbell Con? This guy needs his own con!

Best Ensemble

It’s my awards ceremony, I want a tie

How I Met Your Mother

Leverage

Smart writing delivered even smarter by both casts.  The casts make both shows a joy to watch.

    Fairest of The Ladies

Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret on Once Upon a Time

Such a bold, strong Snow White and a properly stylish school teacher Mary Margaret she deserves some recognition. And her skin, her sleek hair! She’s gorgeous.

Applause applause, grand musical finale, the end.  So, what award category do you think is missing and who deserves it?

Best Facial Hair in a Supporting Role: Rick Grimes’s Stubble.

  2. Natasha says:

I agree with you 100% about everything! I have thought about the Duhamel/Olyphant quandry for some time. I, too, have gotten them confused!

Why is Tennant your picture for DW? Is there something going on I’m unaware of?

  4. Bex says:

Well, it was for Dr. Who in general and it was the only sad photo I could find. Each doctor gets some tear worthy moments.

I used to have the Olyphant/Duhamel problem… which reminds me, I can’t be the only one who calls him the Olyphant Man, right? ;)

I never got into How I Met Your Mother… not even a twitch.. and I like Neil Patrick Harris. I also liked Alyson Hannigan. In fact, she is why I started watching Buffy back in the day. I’m a redhead, I like other redheads.. and I also kept thinking of the Dick Giordano/Ed Hannigan pencil/ink team on DC comics though I know there’s no relation.

I agree on Leverage, though. A strong cast that carries that show even when sometimes the plot is thin. They have Whedon-like banter that works… and used to have a lot of Dr Who references.

Ginnifer Goodwin is pretty. What’s amazing is how many people in the forums complained about her hair and clothes… and never seemed to get that they were trying to un-pretty her purposefully for the curse on that show…I think she was pretty anyway, but I got what they were going for… apparently a lot of people didn’t.

Yes! Bruce needs his own con; he can call it ChinCon! ♥ lol
